According expectations

grounds good, room needs improvement, specially washrooms ( leaking water from the ceiling), service good dining good, maybe food too repetitive, on the beach I think should be more activities,BIG thank you for organize a mass on Sunday

Crap place scheduled to be demolished in 3 months

This is not even a resort! No one spoke English food sucked bugs in room. Doors had been kicked in and locks had been replaced with small chains, no security in the middle of a village not a safe place to stay! Shame on sunwing to even rate this place a 3 star as I would not rate it a 1 star. Had to pay to be moved wasted 2 days of vacation time!

Very dated 70's resort

Stayed : January 2019 Pros: 1. Inexpensive. Remember, you get what you pay for (see cons for details) 2. Friendly staff. For example, the air conditioning was not working when we checked in to the room. Staff arrived and fixed the issue within 30 minutes. 3. Great ground maintenance, including their exclusive beach area. Overall cleanliness is very good. 4. No wait time at the restaurant. Who wants to wait for their meals when hungry?! 5. Many cats are on the property, including the dini [... lire plus]ng room. Good news for cats lovers but is sucked for some who are suffering from cat allergies. This is the MOST crucial information missing on their website. Travel agents should take note and advise their clients about this. It may cause health concerns for some. Cons: 1. Very low water pressure and limited hot water supply during peak hours. Reported the issue twice but zero improvement. 2. Free WiFi is NOT through out the resort. Slow connectivity at the lobby, dining room, poolside and sport bar areas. NO WiFi in the rooms and at the exclusive beach. Roaming with your cellphone provider is the only option to stay connected. 3. No landline in the room. What it means is that you will have to walk all the way to the reception and talk to someone face to face when issues arise. As well, during emergency situations, someone will have to rush to the lobby and ask for help, or using your personal cell phone to call the local emergency services. 4. Limited choice of foods and drinks and quantity is average. C-. 5. Their exclusive beach is about 10 minutes away on foot. Regular shuttle service is available through out the day. Can be inconvenient for some compared to some beach front. Would I recommend Pureto Plata Village? Yes for budget travelers. If you are looking for something more convenient and a taste of luxurious, I would suggest that you look elsewhere. Once again, you get what you pay for. Okay resort

The hotel grounds was pretty simple nothing fancy but yet relaxing, now the food omg amazing lots of cultural authentic food,any one that likes beef that's the place to go the best,the rooms nothing fancy but very clean!

Exactly what I expected.

After staying in Puerto plata, sosua and cabarete 17 times I can honestly say this resort was exactly what I expected. It is a 3 star so did not expect all the frills of a 4 or 5 star. The staff was friendly and helpful. The good was ok but not top of the line. We never starved. The beach buffet had the best food. I read reviews of people complaining about locals on the resort but hey, it's there island so let them enjoy it. I did however pick the wrong weekend to start vacation as it was about  [... lire plus]day weekend. And it was packed with locals. So it was very busy. We met lots of nice people while there. The rooms were clean as were the grounds. And of course there were plenty of drinks. The mall is close by to walk to and shop or eat at. All in all it was a good trip.

Fine resort.

The resort was ok it was old but kept up well the staff were very friendly and the food was pretty good. Location was ok I wish it was on the beach but they did a good job with transport to the beach. The room where clean and staff was very accommodating

Ok

Not to impressed,we changed rooms 3 times in 7 day all because water leaking in the first 2 rooms. And for Sunwing,don’t think would ever travel with them again, dirty planes and dirty tables.food was ok not a lot of variety,drinks sucked you couldn’t get 2 drinks the same in a row.

Very friendly resort

It was kept very clean everywhere on the resort The maids were very nice and kind the staff lots of fun. The a la carte Italian Restaurant was exquisite. The snack bar was great pizza and burgers. The staff were the best part

Nice hotel

The hotel is a little out dated but honestly that's all I can complain about. The buffet food was a bit boring but it was okay. The snack bar was good! Loved the pizza and the burgers.The hotel staff were great and our room was clean. Bring your own beach towels though because they don't have many availible.

Beautiful pool

The public areas and grounds are gorgeous and the staff are fabulous, we have never met such happy and friendly people. The rooms are adequate, but need a little updating, we had a couple of minor issues which were sorted out quickly. The food was good but got a little repetitive, so a week was enough. We really liked the pool area and felt very safe in the resort. Excursions were very expensive though as everything is priced in US dollars.

Met expectation

The hotel met our described expectations, as we were expecting a 3.5 stars. So don't expect 5 stars at a 3.5 as that's unrealistic. Proximity of pool, lobby, restaurants was convenient, which we prefer. Shuttle ran regularly to beach. You can walk too, about 7 min leisurely stroll. There was lunch buffet and bar at private Sandy beach. Able to get loungers and lots of room. Our check in could have been quicker. Supposed to be 3:00 but not ready until 4:00. The room we got wasn't like the website [... lire plus] photos. It was stark white and in much need of some colorful decor. We happened to buy Puerto Plata bright towels to spread about for extra tropical vibe. Otherwise room was maintained and clean. A/c worked. Would recommend they install ceiling fans as an alternate to keep humidity under control as the ceiling started to get humidity build up by end of trip. Probably due to the fact we actually had hot water, so steam probably didn't vent well enough. Pool was large and kids had a blast playing. Lots of loungers and swim up bar. The other bar and restaurants are in close proximity so getting drinks, food was convenient. Entertainment staff was available poolside and in the evening for Games, jokes, dancing, shows etc. Dance group who did the Friday and Saturday show was a hot mess but they tried? Would rather just salsa with the entertainment staff! We happened to have a partly rainy week... can't control the weather. So beach front developed more seaweed than kids liked. There was a crew who cleaned it up in the morning. Enjoyed both the buffet and all carte all inclusive dining. No complaints...typically hot foods, carving station, breads, salads, fruits and desserts. Typical Caribbean / Spanish choices combined with North American cuisine. Staff spoke primarily Spanish but we managed to get English and on occasion French when needed. Day trip to nearby Ocean Park was good except it rained, but it can be a rainy day trip and they sell rain ponchos so was OK. Again, can't control the weather. Kids still managed to do most things. Overall, hotel generally met expectations.

Boring

The property is very nice and well kept, quality of housekeeping, its schedule and changing bed sheets, towels should be improved though. Very friendly staff, but lacks interesting activities to do there or having quality night entertainment. Nothing is close by the resort to explore except the beach and an empty expensive mall. Taxis are too expensive to move anywhere. No hot water. The food is decent. The pool is nice looking but a bit dirty from leaves and dead bugs. No internet access in the [... lire plus] rooms which is very inconvenient.. The best thing about this place is the staff, the worst, that the resort is empty (except on the weekends) and too expensive to take taxis anywhere. I recommend renting a car after checking-in.

Ok

What I expected from a 3 star. Floors cleaned well, towels changed and water left daily. We tipped daily. Food was OK flavor, caused a little stomach but that is normal for me it seems when in Dominican, Mexico or Cuba. Had a very relaxing time.

Great resort if you are on a budget!

We had a great vacation at Puerto Plata Village! I went with a friend (both 25). The resort met all of our needs. Our only complaints would be that we only had one key, and there were not always beach towels available. You had to go get one in the morning, and were not always able to switch an old one for a new one if you were done in the evening. The hotel room was clean enough. There was some water damage on the ceiling, but that was it. The staff were great! Lots of fun, and tried to get peop [... lire plus]le involved. Our favourites were Gabrielle and Rikki! There was a kids pool, and one other pool with a swim-up bar. It wasn't the cleanest pool, and it could use some maintenance, but it was alright. The food was nothing special. The same type of stuff every day, but there was more than enough of it. We could take a shuttle or walk to the beach. The shuttle came by every 10 minutes or so, so we never had to wait very long, but we also chose to walk a number of times. It is not very far, and it is a nice walk. The bars were pretty basic. We aren't big drinkers, so we didn't mind. We would have liked to have some more options though. Overall, you get what you pay for. Don't go expecting it to be a 5 star resort, because it isn't. It was better than we expected. We had a fantastic vacation, and would definitely go there again!

Puerto Plata Village resort

Rooms are OK but the furniture is old not really functional ( they don't have separate cupboards ) and the washrooms are somehow not really functional. But the pool area was OK, also the food,and the services.
