Great vacation!

Just returned from Ixtapa Fontan resort. We were pleasantly surprised as this was a 3* resort. The food was fresh and tasty. Staff very friendly! We thought every room had a balcony but after one night staff was able to accommodate our request. The beach is great for walking but watch for the big waves and undertow, lost my prescription glasses the first day. Enjoyed the resort activities including bike tour to Playa Linda, beach volleyball, stretching and Zumba! Also enjoyed being right in town [... lire plus] with easy access to great restaurants and shopping!

So so resort Fontan

Rooms still in need of desperate upgrades. Small fridge not in all rooms. No drinking water or face cloths everyday. Food is average. Hamburgers not cooked. Specific floors should be designated for families so the rest of us can sleep. Happy to see a kids buffet added. Great pool with swim up bar.

Great location; decent resort.

The location of the resort is great; close to shopping and restaurants and the beach is fabulous. The food is mediocre and the renovated rooms are very nice. we heard the un-renovated rooms aren't that nice. there are plenty of events and I really liked that the resort is smaller. there definitely are not enough pool chairs for everyone staying at the resort so it's best to be down to the pool early (8 am) to reserve chairs. we were in tower C on the 8th floor and had a partial ocean view [... lire plus], it was very nice. it was not noisy and we faced east so got the morning sun which was really nice. the bed was super comfy and the room was very well-kept by the cleaning staff. there are water jugs on each floor which was very nice. the hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating; a very pleasant experience. the hotel staff work VERY hard to make sure the guests are taken care of...they do not stop!

It was a good week!

The Fontan Ixtapa is an older hotel, very well maintained both inside and out. The staff were all excellent and very accommodating. Got quite a surprise my first morning when the pool music started at 7 a.m., and that happens every day. No sleeping in on vacation. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired, except for the one night in the separate restaurant, and that meal was excellent. I would not do a two week stay..

Good enough

The hotel was fine and the food was ok. Room nice enough. Ocean view a must. It took a few days to adjust to the food but overall, it was different but fine. The beach was great, waves huge and powerful so be careful. But Thursday to Sunday super busy with bus loads of people coming in making it super crazy. Pools filled with people and kids were everywhere. We changed rooms due to the noise later in evenings. The town was nice, clean and friendly. You can't beat the weather there that's [... lire plus] for sure, mid 30"s the whole week. Would try another hotel when we visit again only due to the wknds there. Staff overall were good. "The General" sports bar across the road was excellent food for us Canadians.

Amazing Time

Me and my husband had a great time. Everything was really good and we enjoyed our stay in Fontan. Service was great , people very friendly, food good, location...... the only thing that need improvement is pool area. It was overcrowded (maybe one of those pools could be adults only since there is kids pool). But all together it was great time for us and we will be happy to go back again.

Amazing resort.

We loved this resort. Having never been to Ixtapa, we heard it was a beautiful spot to vacation. Yes their were a lot of Mexicans at the resort, we had no trouble at all, the parents were great, no children running around, parents looked after them. They deserve to have a vacation as well. The food was great, never did we find food a problem. Drinks were plentiful.The rooms were cleans every day. The staff went out of there way to help you with any thing that came up. The beach was one of the be [... lire plus]st in Mexico. I do not have a bad thing to say about this resort, it does need some freshen up , but what resort doesn't. There were 4 in our group, and we are planning to go back next year. I'v read many reviews on this resort, we never had a problem. To all those who like to complain, stay home. Do you have some one to make your bed or some one to cook for you, I know I don't. It's a beautiful hotel to stay at. You can go further down the road to any other resort, but your going to pay a lot more money.

Not worth going hotel-resort

Hotel is very old and smells moldy in every room you'll go no matter of the floor. Bathrooms need major renovation. No shower, only very very old probably original bathtub since the hotel was built in 1967yr. Pools are very crowded with local Mexicans that come for weekends. Enough food was in cafeteria while Mexicans were there, however when they left on Sunday the next day on Monday there was pretty much nothing to eat for people that were not Mexicans. And even the food looked like it was lef [... lire plus]tovers from the previous day. Very poor selection of food. Very little varieties of fruit oferred. Very few of serving staff understood English spoke only Mexican. The mattress in room was so hard it felt like sleeping on a board. Pillows are the worst I've seen my life, it was like sleeping on a rock. Definitely both mattress and pillows NEED to be changed. What was weird also that mattress was covered with plastic sheet underneath of the bed sheet. Bed sheet was a flat sheet which barely covered the mattress and because of huge terrible discomfort in bed in the morning the flat sheet was rolled to a half of the bed so you end up sleeping on a plastic/vinal sheet. Another HUGE disadvantage was a Disco bar/night club/restaurant which was about 1 km max from the hotel. On Friday and Saturday the music was SO loud till 4:30 in the morning, my husband and couldn't fall asleep and get rest till after they shut the "party" down. We ended up sleeping in in am cause of lack of sleep over the night. Not much attractions in that area. Ocean had huge waves up to 12-15 feet and was very rough and dangerous to swim. We were told at this time of the year (March) ocean is always rough. For the activities on site-Movie nights were ONLY in Mexican no English at all. TV was all in Mexican except for 1 channel-very old movies. The beach had very limited number of umbrellas and chairs to sit or lay down on. Early in the morning when I got one chair to lay down on, my husband went to the pool area to get for himself as well, but was stopped and told could not take it from the pool area. Then my husband asked the guy what he could use and from where he could get one, the guy talked to another service staff in Mexican about it in front of my husband and eventually was allowed to get one for himself but was told next time to ask if could get one. Let me be clear, before the dark hotel personnel picks up ALL the chairs from the beach area, so in the morning there's none available on the beach so eventually you had to get one for yourself. Not impressed about that or the stall of getting a chair to use on the beach. I went to vacation by the ocean to enjoy the ocean water not an overcrowded pool which is max 1.5 miter deep. If I wanted to go to a pool could do that locally without spending thousands of dollars on it. Wifi very weak in the overcrowded lobby. No iron in the room. Water bottles limited to 1 per person per day. Of course no fridge with drinks. In the room the main venting system is very loud. Slept with air conditioning off but because of the noise coming out of the venting system took quiet some time as well to fall asleep. Overall would rate the hotel 2 stars max. My advice if you had stayed before at resort 4 and 4+ resorts DO NOT go to this resort. You will get disappointed. For the value of money we paid it could and should have been better. Will not be returning to this hotel/resort.

Value Priced ,Too Child Friendly

I am not a professional reviewer ,just a senior looking for a quiet week in the sun. I am disappointed with the Fontan Ixtapa. The beach and the location are great. The staff is good.The buffet is fine but the selection is limited. I understand hotels and airlines are in the business of selling space but this trip was overwhelming with the number of family's with young children and newborns.The crying and screaming was not fair to other travelers. On several occasions there was no seating at the [... lire plus] pools and beach area, larger groups seem to commandeer prime areas of space. The room was marginal at best, rock hard mattress, lack of sitting , chipped tiles on floors, dirty grout in the shower. This hotel needs a major renovation in the rooms. I would have a hard time recommending it to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay. I would come back Ixtapa as a destination , but in a 4 or 5 star adults only.

3 star at most

We stayed at the Fontan Ixtapa Dec 24-31, 2015. The resort was too small to accommodate the number of people that were there over the holidays. There were not even close to enough pool or beach chairs. You were in line constantly for bar service and there is no evening entertainment. We purchased 3 "deluxe oceanview" rooms and requested king-size beds. One room had no balcony and none of the rooms came with king beds. I would not pay extra for these "upgrades" again. On the positive side: housek [... lire plus]eeping is excellent!! In fact, the entire resort is tidy and clean. Our A/C, hot water, safe, etc all worked perfectly. The staff are friendly, the beach is amazing, the on-site massage is very reasonably priced and they treat you very well. The resort is perfectly located across the street from the markets, restaurants & bars which provided easy access to the bank machine, etc. Because the resort entertainment is non-existent after sunset we often wandered across to the market which meant that we spent a lot of extra money on top of our all-inclusive fees. I would return to Ixtapa in a heartbeat......but I would spend a few more dollars and stay at a better resort.

Loved it!

We travel extensively throughout the Caribbean and ixtapa has become one of our new favourite places in the world. The hotel lived up to its 3 star rating. We found staff went above and beyond for us, the rooms are basic but more than adequate and we thought the food was great. Over Easter week was insanely busy though and when we return it will not be over Easter. Very happy with both the area and the hotel.

Nice resort

great selection of food, very nice people, older rooms but nice and clean. fun time there ,pool and deck are nice and lots of room. right on the beach. also this is one of the first hotels, so the garden and grasses are gorgeous. and it has a great style

Loved it

I loved this resort, the food was delicious, the service was great, beautiful people. I was there during an Earthquake, and the staff were excellent, moved all of us to the first floor as we were all scared. The beach was really nice, I would go back and stay at this same resort, there was a market across the street and a super market. There were many options on places to eat, the main buffet or by the beach where you can order from the menu.
