Lovely Resort

Just returned from a lovely week at Akumal Bay Beach Resort. This resort is about 90 minutes from the airport but a pleasant drive. We stayed in building 3 and were more than happy with our room. It had 2 beds as requested as I traveled with my adult son. Every room has a sea view and only steps from the beach. The beach has lovely white sand and lots of beds and shade. This resort is kept very clean and while we were there it was very windy so we had quite a lot of seaweed. The staff kep [... lire plus]t the beach very clean and raked away all the seaweed unlike Secrets next door who never cleaned their area of the beach. Snorkeling in this area is amazing (according to my son) and snorkeling equipment is available to everyone free of charge. Lots of colourful fish and turtles to see. The restaurants were all very good especially the Gourmet one. No need to book for restaurants they are all on a first come basis. Casual dress for everywhere except the gourmet restaurant and men have to wear long pants and shoes (no shorts and flip flops). Not much entertainment at this resort but that suited us just fine. If you want lots of entertainment and like to party go somewhere else. This is a very relaxing resort not a party resort.

ABBWR For families of all ages,

Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort (ABBWR) is for couples and families of all ages. It is not a party palace or a disco. If you are looking for solitude or a quiet place, go to the south end of the of the beach, it is great for couples! It has a gorgeous long sand beach on a reef protected bay. Fabulous snorkeling. This is the home of endangered giant sea turtles. you can see them year round in the bay. May through November you can see them nesting or hatching. The staff will treat you like [... lire plus] royalty. I have been there twice and have yet to eat in all the specialty restaurants. The food in the main buffet is great with a large variety. Of course you can have your eggs and omlette any way you want them but you will need to tear yourself away from the champagne and smoked salmon. The only short comings is a lack of easily available information about the turtles and the only person who does not speak English is the resident marine biologist.. There are numerous bars and even beach chair service, all included. If you make the ten minute walk north up the beach to the village, take some pesos, as there are numerous stores, both souvenirs and local crafts. You can also buy anything you forgot or run out of. I have been there twice and my better half, tells me we are going back. That is a trip I will gladly do..

Great resort

The resort was kept very clean. It was also a small resort so that you had easy access to where ever you wanted to go on the resort. The staff on the resort are all very very friendly and the most of them speak english quite well.

The Resort Where the Staff Say No!

We are just getting back into vacations. My husband and I booked a Trip threw Trip Central last April! We went to a five star resort Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, Cabo San Lucas. We had a wonderful experience and had acces to all restaurants, bermuda shorts and sandals were acceptable. It never occurred to me that there would be mandatory dress code of a shirt with collar, long pants and covered shoes! At Akumal Beach we had no access to Restaurants on this property. Leaving us at the mercy of the poo [... lire plus]l side snack bar and the buffet style restaurant for the next seven days. If we tried to leave the buffet restaurant with desserts to take back to our room after dinner, our door lady Aracely would say No and radio for her floor manager for assistance. We said to him that we were in our mid fifties and we are not irresponsible children, but it was a firm No, by him. At Pueblo Bonito there was never an issue to leave with some dessert. After all there are coffee machines in the room, which we love a cup of tea in the evening with dessert. As we had walked into the small town to purchase real milk at the OXO mart, the resort served evaporated milk and we are not used to that flavour in our tea and coffee. A simple cup of ice cream could not be eaten ten feet away from the entrance of the buffet without once again being approached by the hostess Aracely informing us that ice cream was to be eaten only in the buffet which was around 85 degrees, denying us the ability to enjoy not only the desert, but the wonderful offshore breeze. A moment among many, missed at this Resort.

Nice Hotel

Nice hotel, no fridge in rooms, booze was poor, room was very nice, people were very friendly { not always asking for a tip, like in Cuba}, food was good. Lack of huts in the shade{ get up early to reserve 1 }, view was very good, snorkeling OK, wind that week was 24/7 so water was murky. There were more +'s than -'s. We knew it wasn't a 5 star to start out, so expectations weren't that high. We had a nice trip.

Incredibly Relaxing Resort

One of the best resorts I've ever been to. Not a five star but did not expect it to be. However, was so much more than that. Wonderful ocean views from every room, delicious food at both the buffet and snack bar, wonderful salt water pool and the mist amazing beach. Would return anytime and am planning on it!

A Fantastic First Family Vacation!

Better to write late than never. It was such a memorable vacation that that my oldest step-daughter decided to make a book out of it using Shutterfly and gave it to us as a gift last Christmas. It's entitled " Going Tropical" and the first page says " Paradise Found". Akumal Beach Resort was a dream come true for our blended family. After receiving an inheritance from my father's passing, we took 5 out of 6 of our children on a first family vacation. Regrettably, the only one missing was my 23 s [... lire plus]on who decided to go to Cuba with his girlfriend. We traveled April 27th to May 4th, 2013. We were a party of 8, with children ages 9, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 25. My husband and I were 49 and 46. Three out of the children had never been South before. My husband and I had honeymooned at the Grand Sirenis six years prior. We loved the smaller Akumal Beach better. It won hands down for it's superb staff, cleanliness and freshness of food, a breathtaking sheltered beach and most importantly, fantastic snorkeling with turtles and a variety of tropical fish. We had 3 rooms. My husband, our 9 yr. old and I were in section 6 on the lower level and the others were by the pool on the 1st and 3rd level. Having done some research, we had requested bed toppers upon reservations and non-smoking rooms. We honestly could not find fault with anything except for some musty smelling pillows which were quickly replaced. We enjoyed all activities on site and also visited the beautiful ruins of Tulum, did a full day at Xcaret and a morning snorkeling session at Yal-Ku lagoon. We had visited Xel-Ha on our first visit. We enjoyed shopping in Akumal village as well as the Cancun airport for authentic souvenirs. We did not venture into Playa Del Carmen. The Akumal Beach Resort staff and manager were genuinely some of the most friendly that I have ever met. Having been raised in Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and having grown up in the hospitality industry as my family had a hotel/restaurant, I recognize and truly appreciate great service. We look forward to going back to the newly renovated Akumal Beach in August of 2015 to see the hatching of the turtles and to visit with the Akumal Beach family.
