A grand old hotel

This hotel build in 1908 is in very good shape including the guest rooms, the lobbies, the gardens and the pool. The decor is very Spanish. The staff we encountered were marvelous. We had 2 lovely notes from the maids. There were different genres of music frequently in the main lobby and at the 9th floor dining room. The staff at reception were very informed when we asked questions. The food was excellent. The hotel history is fascinating. We were fortunate to have one of the staff give us a [... lire plus] tour and inform us of the history. Built is 1908 and added on to in the 1920's it has has many reincarnations .... a hospital, a school and accommodated 2 large casinos. People staying there included the mafia who were running rum to Miami during the US Prohibition. The mafia were very involved in the 2 casinos. Al Capone stayed in room 615 when he was in Havana. General Batista occupied the 9th floor when he was a dictator in Havana. The social and financial conditions of the working people were explained during the rule of Batista and Castro. We loved ssstaying there and would go back to the Sevilla The only disappointment was the sporadic hot water.

Just OK

We spent March 29 and 30th 2017 at this hotel. The room was clean, The bed was comfortable, breakfast was great. This hotel is centrally located. Did not discover the pool bar until we were checking out but had to kill a couple hours and it was beautiful in my opinion much better than the main lobby bar

Not impressed

We started out our vacation with a two day stay at the Sevilla, which was recommended by a travel agent that we actually didn't book with (now I know why). The hotel needs a lot of work, the rooms are nothing special, in fact quite the opposite. Dimly lit rooms, uncomfortable beds, fridge didn't work, small bugs on the bathroom floor which resembled tiny ants, and the elevators were constantly broke down. We usually had to use the service elevator or walk down the sketchy stairs that were poorly [... lire plus] lit and dangerous. I was very happy to leave this hotel and will not return. Overall staying in Havana is a money grab. You need to be very careful and remember there's people are good cons. They will try shuffling you into shotti bars to overcharge you for drinks and cigars that you have no intention of buying or crappy little eateries with old men serenading you, and everyone is looking for a tip. If you make eye contact with someone they think you should tip them (or so it seems). Finished off our vacation with a stay at the 5 star Iberostar Varadero. Also not impressed considering the cost and the service, not to mention the crap entertainment. Will not return. Mexico or Jamaica bound again.

Great location

This hotel was in a perfect location to see old Havana, next to Revolution Museum. We thought it was a nice hotel except for a little ant infestation in our kids bathroom on top of their sink. They did not offer to do any reimbursements but they did come up and spray. We stayed here 3 nights. I would probably stay somewhere else next time. But would still consider because of the location staying again.

Truly Enjoyed Our 7-day Stay

For our third time in Havana in the past four years, we stayed on this occasion at the Sevilla (Apr 18th to 25th) enjoying a very comfortable, clean, stately, upper, corner room ... plenty of natural light. The Sevilla is in a great location situated on the Prado in Old Havana. Most of what you may wish to take in during a 3 to 7 day stay is available to you on foot ... you really need to walk the streets to truly enjoy the magnificent architecture and the heart and soul of Old Havana. We foun [... lire plus]d the hotel staff and reception to be most friendly and helpful. Our package included breakfast and we chose to dine outside the hotel for lunch and dinner. The buffet breakfast fare was fairly plain, without much variation from day to day ... fine coffee, a selection of juices, yogurts, fruits, meats, cheese, breads and a few pastries. Eggs of any kind did not show up until halfway through our stay ... scrambled and hardboiled eggs on the buffet ... but the best feature, when it did appear, was certainly the omelet station and the gregarious chef who handled the duties. After walking the streets in the early part of the day, we spent quiet, relaxing afternoons by the street level pool ... somewhat surreal being next to the Prado, but nicely obscured by greenery and wrought iron fence. We booked an attractively priced package and truly enjoyed our week long stay. Throughout the week we were amazed at the level of restoration and finishing touches being completed. It meant that we did not have access to the courtyard lobby nor the 9th floor lounge. Clearly, all improvements to the hotel, and while it may have been a put-off to some travelers, we really did not find it bothersome. At no time did we harbor reservations about our hotel selection and would gladly stay at the Sevilla again at the right price. Room Tip: Upper room

Great hotel in a great location!

This is a wonderful old hotel with a great location in downtown Havana, walking distance to the water, other hotels, bars, churches, etc. We stayed for 3 nights and a buffet breakfast was included. Will stay here again.

Great location and atmosphere

A beautiful, older hotel in the heart of the city. Easy walk to all museums and squares. High ceilinged rooms, with tall windows. Great ground floor amenity spaces for lounging, meeting place, courtyard cafe with live music, air-con dining room for nice breakfasts. Sunny pool & patios, with a bar/cafe. The top floor restaurant was closed for repairs, but looks like a beautiful room with the best views for dining in the city.

Loved this hotel

The entrance and lobby were fantasic. Great place to cool off with a drink and enjoy a breeze, cocktail and some live music. Rooms were bright, had high ceilings and clean and comfortable. Would stay here again on my next trip to havana

Very pleasant Havana hotel

We arrived late at night and were greeted dourly and given a shabby musty room with a window barred from opening by bulky furniture. The next day we requested a room change and we scored room 615 -- the Al Capone room! Very spacious with views across the city to the sea. This is a wonderfully atmospheric romantic hotel. The pool is great although it closes at 6PM. The location is ideal for the old city as well as Centro and points beyond....Problems: [1] Poor coffee service at breakfast. [2] Wre [... lire plus]tched late night reception. [3] Rooms need ceiling fans or AC.[4] Pool should be open in the evenings until 11 PM at least. [5] Lack of water bottled water in hotel.

Old Havana Charm but Tired

After many visits to Havant I decided to stay there on my visit in January 2014. I was assigned a great corner room. quiet and airy. However it had not been used for awhile. Phone was out and hair dryer shorted in my hand. the hair dryer issue was resolved after 3 tries also the phone was replaced. Charming but tired and I was underwhelmed. Go for the fabulous operatic floor show unparalleled. roof restaurant a must see view. .
