So so

Rooms ok quiet air conditioning lots of hot water, fridge was kinda noisy but also empty all week, beach is between white and brown sand gets very hot to walk on, water is rough at shore all the time. All these things are manageable but the food was the same chicken pork and fish every day got very tired of food here. The front desk was very helpful and the sunwing girl was good also, we would not return here unless major renovations happen, It is an older tired resort

Starfish resort

Although we had a fun vacation this resort was a little disappointing. The resort is very, very small with little to do other than relax by the pool or the beach. It is basically a small hotel with a pool and beach. The views are spectacular and every room has beach access right out your patio door. The food is lacking in variety but some nights were not too bad. It has the smallest food area I have ever experienced. The buffet would fit in anyone’s home kitchen There was one a la carte n [... lire plus]ight which no one seemed to know about until it was full. I always enjoy the a la cartes so this was very disappointing. We received 2 small bottles of water on arrival and we were to refill them at the bar every day if we wanted more. The fridge in the room had nothing in it and the in room coffee maker was a kettle and instant coffee or tea. The staff seem unhappy and not very helpful. A few staff very friendly and welcoming. The entire resort could be a happening place with a few minor tweaks but you likely won’t see that anytime soon. There is a couple of nights with very cheesy entertainment. We had many chats with other lovely guests, many which have had returned multiple years and they absolutely loved the place. We did make many friends and enjoyed the island of Tobago on our excursions.

Peaceful

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Starfish. We found it very quaint but with everything we needed. The staff were friendly,the grounds were pretty and the beach was beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet, restful vacation, Starfish is just what the Doctor ordered. However, the food could be improved. We found it to be very inconsistent.

Great location!

We had a great time at this resort. It is dated, which we knew when we went. All the rooms face the ocean, fantastic and we had a ground floor which meant steps to the beach. There are no ala cartes available. They try, but they never materialized during our stay. The food at the buffet was very good, but there are not a lot of straight 'American Choices' if you have a picky eater. They do have a beach grill that offers the standard hamburgs, fries, hotdogs, pizza etc. Having said that,  [... lire plus]we liked the food because it was more of a Caribbean menu. There is no coffee bar, which we really missed from other resorts we have been to but the staff did say that is one thing they may be working on with upcoming renovations. It does need a good 'cleaning' but it will be interesting to see the changes now that Sunwing has taken over. The weather was amazing!!! We could not have asked for better. Most of the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Poor resort

This hotel had a nice beach is all. Rooms outdated.updated room and all u received was a extra single bed. Amentties at hotel ard a 2 at best. Service a 3. Food a 1. No lecarte and buffets where horrible. I lost 5 pounds lol. Bull doze ghe hotel and rebuild. Shame for such a nice island. I will return but never to a star fish resort. Would not recommend to stay there unless you had too.

Solid three star old-style Caribbean beach resort

You should carefully manage your expectations before booking a trip to the Starfish Tobago. Pros: -resort is right on the beach with water mere steps away and all rooms are completely ocean front (not just ocean view) with nice patio (first floor) or balcony -room air conditioners are new and adjustable--can be turned off at night by use of remote -restaurant is open air and looks out right over the water with great ocean view -good breakfast with bacon and eggs available different ways [... lire plus] (including fried, poached, boiled, and omelette) at grilling station -good G7 label Chilean red and white house wines are included and served at dinner by staff--this stuff is for sale in local supermarkets for the equivalent of 25 Canadian dollars, so this is a good quality wine for an all-inclusive at this price point -wonderful mile long sandy beach (no rocks) with leatherback turtles nesting there during season (starts in March, they said), -good large pool for non or poor swimmers (only 3'6'' in depth throughout, with multi step entry), separate small kiddie pool for toddlers, and large elevated multi jetted jacuzzi overlooking pool (but with pool water temperature), -clean basic rooms with large showers with rainforest shower heads and free safes (but note the Con below) which are located in two buildings only 2 storeys (Regular rooms) or 3 storeys (Turtle) high (but no elevator) -hot water in our bathroom and shower was always available (but you need to let it run for a minute or so to get it--turn dial all the way to the left at first), king sized bed was comfy and not too firm -lovely gardens throughout grounds and along a fully covered walkway (handy in the rain) from the rooms to the lobby and restaurant, -many colorful birds (including hummingbirds--6 species of them on island) throughout resort, with bird feeding stations located right outside the restaurant), -only a few beach vendors (and they are stationary with small displays of goods laid out on blankets on beach or hanging from trees at edge), -staff is uniformly friendly and attentive -beach bar makes blender (but strangely inconsistent) drinks and have choice of Carib or Stag draft beer -separate nice beach shack with tables and chairs on a wooden terrace, but hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza (grandkids loved this), and grilled cheese sandwiches (with french fries) are the only choices Cons: -Beach does have sharp drop-off--good for huge turtles but humans need to be careful! -Buffet only, with no a la cartes at all (contrary to hotel advertising), All items are taken by you back to your table from food in large tin bins with cafeteria-style flip-up tops for which you line up--if you don't go early at 7, you're out of luck as they simply run out of food. -birds attack your food the moment you leave to get anything else--they also drink right out of the fruit juice dispensers at the buffet -dinner entirely consists of limited 3 or 4 entrees (typically fish and chicken, a steamed vegetable dish, and desert of one big cake and one big pudding to be cut up into pieces) and is heavy on local spiced Carib food. For example, one night the only 3 entree choices were curried goat, curried fish, and curried chicken. Great if you love Carib and Indian food (as my family does), but others were complaining loudly. Lunch choices were similarly limited at the main restaurant to just a couple of entrees, with heavy emphasis again on local foods. Examples are saltfish, roti doubles, and callaloo spiced soup (which contains dasheen—eddo and taro leaves—okra, crab, salt meat, onions, pimento peppers, scotch bonnet peppers, green onions and thyme, all cooked in fresh coconut milk). -Hotel security seems suspect--when we were there, another couple were robbed--they came back to their room and the safe was open and all it's contents gone! Big police investigation by many visible officers coming on to resort, but management first lied to guests and said it was just a routine police visit and only later admitted the robbery had happened when confronted about it--yikes -Resort is dated throughout--beach palapas are all ragged, paint pool has peeled in many places (but pool is cleaned every day and seemed clear), etc. -many, many older (plus 75) English hotel guests, who have been coming here for many rooms, constantly complained to us of hotel's fading past and present poor food -included in our own group were our grandkids (8 and 6), and there is no kid's club or activities for them, contrary to hotel advertising. Fortunately, we made our own fun and went on many outside activities (snorkelling on a private boat tour, nature reserve hiking with a guide, horseback riding in the water with Healing with Horses program, rented a car for most of the week--don't forget to drive on the left!). Summary: You can easily have a great time on Tobago and at this basic 3 star hotel, but it's clearly not for everyone!

Starfish Tobago

-Beautiful grounds, gorgeous beach, comfortable accomodations (but did discover a cockroach in room), poor food choice except at breakfast, and all around tour of the island (Sunwing) a super tour led by a very knowledgeable tour guide and driver.

Excellent Vacation

We were down at Starfish Dec 19-26th. I was not sure what to expect as I saw mixed reviews however I took the chance simply because in my mind all I’m going down there was for sun, sand and the beach! Since I did not have huge expectation I must say the hotel turned out to be fantastic. Upon our arrival we got treated with cocktails and the check in process was seamless. They had already ore assigned rooms so it didn’t matter weather you were first in line or last. We got to our room in the [... lire plus] evening around 6pm. Dropped everything and were just happy to have a room. Room is not your 5 star however it had two beds to accommodate our 4 people family. The space was enough for the 4 of us to move around. The washroom was basic and good to get things done and leave. No issue with plumbing or water etc... all works top notch. The pool is very big and the area is very spaced out which is nice so you’re not butted up with your neighbour. The beach is two secs away from the pool which was nice as I bounced between pool and beach for my kids. The shack for eating snacks and burgers was right by the beach which was a nice change from having to go inside for buffet lunches. Food overall was a combination of local and western. Breakfast they had the typical pancakes, French toast, cereal but also has some yummy local food such as salt fish and bake, egg plant style curries etc.... lunch and dinner was similar - BBQ chicken, porks, beef etc... plus rice and curries. They had a desert table but ask for local ice cream which is served daily but not readily available in the sweat table. The staff were incredibly pleasant! Gisele at front desk was my absolute favorite. She’s kind, courteous, friendly and always polite and has answers for everything. The bar men in both bars were also very polite. Entertainment is local so you get steel pan music, solo singers and kareoke. We met few Canadians on the trip and have a blast hanging out with them. We also met few trinidadians - very sweet and kind people. We did venture out to Pigeon Point. - this is must do to Nylon Pool! My husband ventured to the north side of island to rain forest and it’s all country side up north. South has pretty beaches and more touristy! Overall we all had a fabulous time with no issues at all other than get dark and enjoy the sun! The beaches are perfect! No rocks, no sea weed, all clear and the waves are beautiful! I hope this encourages you to check out. We have kids 11 and 14yrs and we all had a great time!!!

Small quiet resort beach front resort

Grounds were well kept flowers and gardens in full bloom. Staff are all on island time, so don’t be in a hurry. Just grab a drink from the main bar or the beach bar and just relax from your ocean swim

Beautiful peaceful resort!

This resort is a small quiet peaceful resort and is perfect for some R & R. Very lowkey and chill....I absolutely loved it. The rooms were great, we had ground floor and our patio had an unobstructed view of ocean (which is super close) We brought a carafe of coffee back every morning and enjoyed sitting there looking out at the water. Bring bug spray as there are mosquitoes. I walked off resort every morning by myself and felt totally safe...I avoided the busy main road went straight back [... lire plus] in land and it was perfect early in the morning. The food was awesome! The chef is amazing and she comes around and checks on you often. She even gave me her homemade hot sauce! I love heat in my food and there was no shortage of that if you asked. There isn't a whole lot of entertainment at night but the singers they do get there are amazing! We took a tour of the island with a fellow we met on the beach and he was incredible...we didn't book Sunwings tour. I would go back to Tobago in a heartbeat!

We had a wonderful time!

My sisters and I spent a week at the Starfish Tobago March 14 - 21, 2019. We had a great time. The staff was great, especially Gaitree (executive chef), Timothy, Ruth and Cheryl (servers). They all went above and beyond for us. Some people complained about different things but I think they are unhappy people to begin with and nothing would suit them. We will go again!

Potential to be a great resort

This resort has the potential to be Great! They need more staff- in all areas- servers/plate clearers, buffet food refillers/bartenders. The swim up bar should have a bartender at all times- also do away with the bartenders having to write down every shot or beer poured!! A few very hard workers, (Cheryl) and lots of slackers! Resort is dated, but could easily be freshened up. More food choices needed on the buffet! Beautiful beach! Amazing spot.

Beautiful beach very wavy nice couple get away not very kid friendly 1 million dollar view from the one restaurant security isn't that efficient as the sleep in the booth while supposed to be watching the grounds staff was very pleasant though rooms fairly up kept location is beautiful food not accessible after 9 PM though
