An excellent place to stay!
My wife and I visited Paradisus from March 29 to April 5. We were pleasantly surprised by the resort. The staff was excellent and service was fantastic. The grounds were fairly well kept. The food was very very good and there was no shortage of it. You were able to get something to eat at anytime, the 24 hour restaurant and bar was great. We highly recommend this resort and we will definitely return. Lorenzo and Luis were great bartenders!

Close to Jardines del Rey Airport in Cayo Cocoa
Melia Cayo Cocoa resort: nice short ride to the resort from the airport. resort is not too big and not too small. pool is nice but there is only one. rooms are nicely done and clean. maid service was excellent and friendly. reception staff always quick and friendly. I once went to the counter to have a 10 Cuban peso converted to singles and the guy already had 10 coins in his hand for me. Was disappointed on lack of fish in the beach waters as we have been to other resorts and were amazed by the bounty of fish during snorkeling. excursions off the resort went fine. Food was typical Cuban which is good but not exceptional. No disco on the resort which is exactly what we wanted. Nice shows put on in the main reception Hall area. You don't need a bracelet for this resort which is interesting as it has neighbouring resorts on each side. No kids as the resort is adult only although you will see them on the beach from other resorts. Don't bother with the stilt houses on the lake. not much of a view and the rooms are the same and the water can smell bad sometimes although we didn't notice it. They have a 24 hour poolside bar kitchen which is great for those times between buffet openings. Beach is only 50 yards from the pool
All in all we would recommend Melia Cayo Cocoa. Bring lots of sunscreen

Paradisus Rio De Oro: STATION FANTASTIQUE - IL FAUT ABSOLUMENT Y RETOURNER !
FANTASTIC RESORT - A DEFINITE MUST FOR A RETURN!
This was our first time in Paradisus Rio De Oro. We had a fantastic time. Divided our time between the pool and the gorgeous beach that had amazing snorkeling. The food was fantastic in both the buffet as well as the A la Carte restaurants. Japanese was our favorite. The grounds were immaculate and the workers in all areas of the resort were polite and very friendly. We are already planning on returning next year. I have no hesitation at all to recommend this resort. It was not too big and not too small.

Melia Las Dunas: Meliã Las Dunas - Avril 2019
Awesome Vacation
We had a great stay here. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Grounds were very well kept. Booked the Japanese a la carte and we highly recommend this. The food was so good. The beach was absolutely beautiful and the pools were also nice. Lots of activities on the beach. Nighttime entertainment was great as well.

The BAD out weighs the Good
We just got back from Melia Jardines del Rey and I will give you the good first.
Good: beach is amazing, grounds are kept nice from the hard working groundskeepers. Housekeepers are always working to keep main lobby clean. Most of the staff speak good English and are friendly, Roberto in the buffet was awesome greeting us with a smile every morning. The cook making our eggs remembered what we liked each morning. The was always lounge chairs available and shade shelters at beach and pool.
BAD: mosquito's are very bad at dusk and dawn, the first four days they ran out of beer at times through out the day, they only served slush drinks at certain times and certain bars. buffet was pretty much the same every day. Beach towels were hard to get let alone replaced. Customer service was very friendly but not helpful in any way. MOST of all what ruined it for us and a lot of others was No running water for the better part of two days, 12 hrs on the Wednesday and 8 hrs Thursday, couldn't flush a toilet wash your hands.
I hope this review helps
We will never go back

First Time to Cayo Santa Maria and the Melia
Stayed at this resort from March 29/19 to April 5/19. We went for the beach, which was outstanding, many kilometers of walking, lots of palapas and chairs, no need to rush out in the morning to save chairs. No rocks in the beach, all sand for swimming, but some waves on some days. Stayed in room 1915 which was in very good shape, everything worked and had a very private garden patio. Lots of hot water at all times of the day and good water pressure. The staff kept it very clean for the entire week. The room was close to everything, just a few minute walk to the front lobby and the restaurants and pool. Grounds were beautiful, well kept and nice to walk through. Food was OK, favorite place to eat was the BBQ at the beach restaurant and the pool grill. Tried two a la carte restaurants, the Bistro, which was good and the Tex Mex, which I think would have been good, but they were out of some things. Ride out to the resort was 1 hr 45 minutes, with the bus stopping at four resorts. Very interesting however, passing through the small towns and countryside for the first time. So PRO's: Beach for sure, BBQ at the beach restaurant, the Cuban musicians and the rock band on Thursday night (very good), watching the Pelicans on the beach, and of course the people who work at the resort, all very nice people and the resorts greatest asset. CON's, don't really have much to mention, the buffet was a bit disappointing for us but we always found something to eat, the airport at Santa Clara was very busy so listing this as a con also. Overall we enjoyed our trip.

Sad how things change
Been here before. Enjoyed it immensely.
This time not so much.
I think the hurricane took a large toll on this resort.
Every thing is tired and worn.
Out of straws, coffee liquor bacon, jam, potatoes, tomatoes, French fries, king bed sheets and probably more that I'm not aware of.
All the food that was available had enough salt to kill a person.
Beef was rock hard in Buffett and the three a'la cartes.
Sad really.

We loved our trip to Melia Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba. We expected beautiful beaches and weather and we got that and more. From flight to arrival to hotel, our stay and departure, all went very well. Would go back in a heartbeat. No mosquitoes, there was always something good to eat, the staff are amazing and the grounds are so beautiful. This is a wonderful hotel to stay at.

Memories Cayo Largo: Belle station balnéaire, plage magnifique !
Nice resort, amazing beach!
This was our third time at the Sol Cayo Largo. We go there because the beach is simply amazing!
The resort is old, but they do their best with what they have to keep it updated. The food at the two a-la-cartes is very good. The buffet gets a little repetitive after 7 days. There was a lack of fresh fruit during our week.
There is a lack of palapas. I guess many have been destroyed and not rebuilt.
The little train is still running and does 3 trips to the marina where you take the catamaran to Playa Sirena.
We had no water problems during our stay. Excellent water pressure all the time.
Large bottle of water delivered daily to your room.
No problems with towels (bath and beach).
The rooms are old and in need of renovation, but are clean.

Good Vacation
This was my second time at this Resort and I'm sorry to kind of say that it has gone downhill in a year. The beach was amazing our room was okay the food was not as great this time. The food literally was the same thing for lunch and supper for the whole 7 days that we were there. The drinks were never consistent and they also ran out of beer several times. We were looking so forward to returning to this Resort as we were there before, but we will not be returning to this Resort again.

Rooms were very dated and toilets didn't work properly no hot water for our full time there!
Very disappointing for a Melia. We have stayed in Melia's in Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Coco (3 times) and were very pleased with these. However because of this one we will not stay at another Melia.
Arrival took for ever, one person on the front desk to check in the 16 guest that arrived.
Toilet wouldn't flush any thing down and there was no hot water. Called 3 times the first night, no one came although they said they were sending someone each time.
Spoke with Carlos (hotel manager) three times and all he did was offer excuses for the problems not a solution.
Transat rep (Marieta) was not helpful. Went to tell her our issues and she asked us to come back at 10. Went back and we were asked to come back at 11. Back at 11 and she offered another room (only one was available) or we could upgrade rooms and it would cost us 20-30 cuc per night (for a working toilet and hot water?? - maybe??), or change resorts. We were asked to come back at 1 to see a room. When back and the room wasn't ready for us to look at so were told to come back once again. What a wasted day and the whole thing was an inconvenience!
Ended up changing rooms and had the same issues - toilet wouldn't fully flush and no hot water. Several guest we spoke with said they had the same problems!
The wait staff were very friendly and made our day(s).

slightly disappointed
We went on a family vacation totaling 8 people including children. We had a good time but since it was not peak season not all of the restaurants were open as advertised. Also, since it was geared towards families there was no smoking allowed, which was great, only I was irritated by the fact that it was easy to detect some of the workers smoking. The ocean was great but we had about 20 feet of stones to wade through to get to the sandbar.
After stating the negatives, the staff was courteous and did a great job of looking after you and the weather was great. The food was not bad but after being in Cuba a few times in the past, you don't go expecting 5 star restaurants. They do their best. We had a good time but I think that I was expecting a little more.

It was good but not great
We like smaller resorts so it suited us well. There were some issues on our arrival like not getting our room for 3/12 hours after check in time. When we did get our room, the key did not work for the door and the safe. And there was no bar fridge in the room. I went back to the front desk and they were going to send someone to fix everything right away. That did not happen that night. So the next morning we had to walk around with our valuables on us and leave our room door unlocked. So, after buffet brunch, I was able to get Carlos the manager up to our room and explain our concerns to him. He said to go enjoy the resort and he would have every thing fixed by noon. From there on, we had fun. Carlos, true to his word, addressed all our concerns. On the positive side, the beach is beautiful. As good as any we have seen in Cuba. And we have been to a different Cuban resort for 10 years now. The service and the food is great. Other than the few kinks that had to be worked out, yes, I will put Melia Cayo Guillermo on my list of resorts to return to.

Would not reccomend
After arriving march 20th we found several items not working. No air conditioning in the main buffet area, staff indicated it might be fixed in may. We were on a third floor room with no hot water (no warm either) which was reported every day to front desk staff. After several days we went to front desk and the famous manager Carlos happened to be there and indicated to us that they were having problems with the third floor in regards to hot water. He indicated to please come back the next day at 3 and we would be moved to a nice room with hot water. (each of our days there they said the same thing but when we went to the front desk , there was no rooms available) However in reading all about how efficient Carlos was , we returned to the front desk at 3 the next day ..........and again there was nothing available nor was Carlos working but the front desk again could not help us. After being shuffled around we were finally moved to another room but this time the door handle fell of the door and they were unable to fix the door and we had to move yet again. I finally spoke to the Air Transat rep and she told us she was going to move us to another resort, which she did. She was very helpful and arranged everything for us to go to the MGM Grand Muthu Imperial a short distance away. We discovered we were surely not the only ones transferred to this hotel and there were over 20 guests diverted to this hotel from the Melia Cayo Guillermo.
I would avoid this hotel at all costs , it's run down and appears they do not have the proper people to repair anything at this resort and is in need of a complete make over, if it's possible at all.

Nice resort
It was well kept and clean. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful...even the gardeners!
The downside was that we were in Family Conciege and the dinner time at the buffet started at 6:30 (which meant 7:00 p.m.). Getting late for little ones. The evening shows also didn't start until 9:30. There was too much of a gap between dinner and the show.
Food was okay, but not great. However, they make the best calamari!
Overall, a good place to stay.

Great Resort
Overall the resort is nice and you know it is a mature resort due to the foliage. There was a bit of a delay in getting our room but apparently they were upgrading some of the rooms with new mattresses, linens, drapes, etc. The food was always good and hot. would have liked to see the pool bar manned more often as the lobby bar maintained it and was not always attentive to it. The pool had a liner which I never seen in a resort before. I found them normally tiled or painted. This liner however had many rips and was lifting and requires replacement/ The highlight of my trip and what I enjoyed the most was the long pier that went out into the ocean. It was such an amazing place to snorkel for fish. People would fish from it and feed pelicans along it. At the end there is a ladder which allows you to dive and swim from the end of it, Loved It. This resort however enjoyable certainly needs some TLC or an upgrading, you can see it's age and areas that over the past 15+ years have deteriorated. The Staff under the direction of Carlos, the manager where top notch. I would love to go back to this resort but likely not until an upgrade was carried out.
