Grand Bahia Principe San Juan

The hotel itself was very nice and the staff was amazing. The buffet food was even better than the A la carte restaurants. The location of the resort is too far from towns and cities. The beach is not that great and the wave breakers ruin the beautiful view even though I know that without them, there would be no beach at all. The rooms were clean and modern.

Lovely grounds nice resort

The grounds are wonderful,lush lots of Palm trees. Rooms some what dated very clean,and quiet in our section. One thing I really enjoyed was how you could always see the ocean while eating,only one al a carte didn't have ocean view. Lots to do kayaks paddle boards .we took snorkelling tour from the beach really recommend this it was well worth the money. Food was fine,no one got sick .

Over all, this was a pretty good resort. If you are looking for a place to go on a family vacation, this is the resort to go to. Very kid friendly, clean, rooms are a decent size, wide variety of food.

Overall Good Resort

When we stayed at the Bahia Principe, the people were amazing as well as the grounds. We found everything to be pretty clean but I found my bed to be quiet dusty. The food was pretty good in the buffet, a bit repetitive but the a la cartes did not live up to the expectations. We did have a very fun trip and there was lots to do on the resort. It was an hour and 30 minutes from the airport which to me is too far.

Nice resort but could have been better

The resort is nice but seemed a bit dated. The showers were ridiculous, absolutely no water pressure and barely warm water. We travelled as a family age ranging 60yrs - 9 months. The staff were very attentive to the baby which was nice. I would have liked the buffet to be air conditioned as it is in other Gran Bahias, love this chain but found this one to fall short of our expectations. That being said for the right price we would return.

Amazing resort

The serving staffs are very friendly, environment is very nice and comfortable, it is worth every dollar we spend there, good food and drink are always available, snacking is near by the pool area, we had a very good time there

Ok resort

resort is closing shortly for needed renos,not comparable to other Gran Bahia we went to previously, there is a language barrier also, if you want ice good luck.. now on a more positive note, the food was good, no need to fight for chairs either at pool or beach resort is smaller than others so a more relaxed and cozy atmosphere all in all we had a good vacation and I also want to add that the price we paid for this was really good soooo

Beautiful Resort - family friendly!

This resort is very large. The grounds and buildings are beautiful - well kept and clean. I had a suite - I highly recommend - it is two standard rooms into one, so two bathrooms and the second area is a living room, with pull out couch suitable for kids. AND two full bathrooms - jackpot. We had family staying on the opposite side E building they had two rooms standard side by side and one night we had the 5 & 12 yr old sleep over on our pull out couch! SOOOO if you travelling with family try to [... lire plus] co ordinate closer to the main building or just on the same side we were in building A13 - too far away really - BUT since we had to walk back and forth you won't gain any weight! lol The food and restaurants were great and the bars. Only thing is that there was NOT 24hr room service like tripcentral says so our Rep told us. BUT one morning we saw food being delivered - hmmmm??? It was a beautiful family holiday! OH and a little too much plastic cups from the bars - if I ordered from the waiter in the lobby - which we normally did - glass but if you go up to the lobby bar (not being in the pool) the drinks would be in plastic - not something I would ever expect from a 5 star resort.

Lovely

All was lovely except staff were unfriendly, and the sand fleas were bad. Room was great, food was good, the resort was beautiful. The room was clean. Overall, a lovely place to visit. Wish the staff spoke English, very hard to communicate.

Very nice resort, great value for the price

grounds were fantastic , rooms were very nice and clean and really quiet , great selection and quality of food . well staffed resort and friendly , never felt pressured to tip even though I did many times , always greeted with a smile

Returning for the 7th Time So knew what to expect

We were there for 10 days which is the perfect amount of time I think. As a returning guest we did receive some extras perks, one of which was getting a very nice room way down the resort in front of the old Diamond Club pool. The weather was very good, a bit of rain but that allows our winterized bodies some relief. The food was fine as expected and the new Asian Restaurant was an unexpected pleasure. With that said, we were very disappointed with the service at both the buffet and the lobby  [... lire plus]in the evening. We used to go there in the past and never have to wait for a glass of water or a drink and once we had them our glasses would never be empty unless we stopped the staff. This was a common theme with a lot of the guests and I think it needs to be addressed before they can try to move towards being a 5 Star resort that they are aiming for. But overall we went there just to relax and enjoy the sun and we got that.

Awesome Resort!

Beautiful resort, clean, friendly staff, good food and very energetic entertainment staff. We even liked the ride from the airport to the resort, it gives you another perspective of people who live in the area, the driver even stopped to re-stock whoever wanted another beer, very impressed. While at the resort, staff were very accommodating and they work very hard to impress, always making sure we had enough to drink and that we had everything we needed.

First Class All The Way!!

From the delicious food to the clean room (housekeeping visits twice daily), the beautiful beach, friendly staff and the many activities offered by the hotel, this resort was amazing!! Did I mention how good the food was?? Best I've experienced at an all-inclusive yet!! The excursions available we're fantastic as well. Will definitely be going back!

Great vacation for everyone

Five of us travelled to this resort April 1-8, 2015. My grandparents, my husband, my son, and I. We had a nice and relaxing holiday. There was a lot to do. The animation team was very friendly and busy with volleyball, archery, bingo, water exercises, yoga, etc. My husband took part, but I'm 6 months pregnant and really just wanted to lay back and relax by the pool with my 14 month old boy. We all found something to do.. Scott won a few of their various tournaments, my grandparents enjoyed sitti [... lire plus]ng by the theatre in the shade watching everyone. They also enjoyed the night entertainment. My son LOVED the main pool, where he could just walk in until he got deep enough for his comfort. He was swimming (with help of his water wings) by the end of the week. The room was dated and a little smaller than what I've had at other resorts, but it was clean. I was told that all of the suites are in the "A" block, which are those closest to the beach. We had a beautiful view of the beach. We were pretty far away from the lobby. They had originally given us two bedrooms with a door connecting them... I spoke to Juan Reyes in guest services on our second day, and he put us in the suite that we had booked. My grandparents were next to us and had to move closer to the lobby, as my grandfather needs a wheelchair for a distance like that. They were very accommodating. The food was good. We always found something to eat. We all enjoyed the omelette station. The staff at the restaurants were super accommodating to us. They loved our baby, and kept him smiling and laughing during every meal. It was a very nice trip.. The only thing is that it was a little dated. I hear they're closing May 5th until sometime in October to upgrade, so I'm sure that after their renovations it will be just perfect. I would recommend this resort for couples of any age, and families. There is something for everyone.

We loved it

Everyone was so nice food good, loved the beach and the pools very pretty grounds, . The only thing was sand flies, bring bug stuff for before and after the bits. Also when you buy WiFi keep that little card you get sometimes you need it to re log in, And the fried cheese is amazing, wish they had it everyday

One bedroom master suite was awesome!!

We had 2 one bedroom master suites and both were awesome, with two bathroom, two balconies, two a/c, king beds and living rooms. We had no problems with either. Food was good and altho repetitive, we always found enough to eat. A la carte restaurants were pretty good, but I have had better at other resorts. Liked having vendors at the very end of the beach just off resort and not bugging you constantly!! Beach is over a km long with lots of chairs and palapas as well as shade trees all along it. [... lire plus] The resort runs the entire length of beach and can be quite a walk if you're at either end of resort. We were about 10 minute walk from main areas but there are also pools on each end and we were next to the snack bar,but didn't really mind the walk as it gave us some exercise. We were a 30 second walk to beach where we spent most of our time. Beach was darker sand, but powder soft and never needed any beach shoes when swimming. The long beach meant no crowding and beautiful to walk on. Locals were allowed in resort Good Friday to Easter Sunday causing pools and Buffet to be VERY crowded,but still lots of room at beach. Great bar service even if not always tipping! They did miss our rooms 3 nights with turn down service, but not a big deal for us. Mini bar stocked every day often with extra and our room was ready when we arrived at 12:30pm. Bit of a drive from airport,but a very nice resort at a decent price with nice little extras in our rooms!! Had a great vacation and would return and recommend!! :)

Wonderful resort

This was my 3rd stay at a Grand Bahia Principe resort. This resort was beautiful. The food was absolutely amazing. Many drinks to choose from but each bar tender had their own way of making drinks, so if you find a drink you like....remember who made it. The staff was great but felt a bit uncomfortable when the washroom maid wouldn't leave the room. All in all it was wonderful and would recommend this resort to anyone traveling to Puerto Plata.

Very pretty resort

overall opinion , I would go back in a minute.. the service we received was awesome..our room was spotless..fridge had a little trouble freezing the water and pop, but at least it wasn't warm.and always stocked ,,. the grounds were extremely well kept.. the buffet restaurant was amazing, clean and fresh..the servers were excellent, thankyou Mario..great fellow.. the A La Carte restaurants were good, but prefer less buffet. (soup, salad, buns, dessert,) .like to be served when going to specialty  [... lire plus]restaurants..the swimming pools were wonderfully kept clean.. the bathrooms were always clean, no matter which one you went to. plenty of lounging chairs, beach chairs pool chairs, and there was always shade when needed.. everything was positive.. but, my only negative experience was Easter weekend, when the public came in..it was too loud,busy,and sometimes downright rude, when it came to buffet restaurant. pushy not wanting to wait in line-ups..so butted in front of you..ok that's it for being negative.. it was a great week..for R and R and that's what we went for..... the hour drive to get there .. give or take...it was good because you get to see a bit of the culture and people..crazy driving lol wow..

Perfect escape from the snow!

We wanted to get away from the snow and sit on a beach; the firm beds and good food were a bonus! We were very happy with the resort minus the water pressure in the showers and the evening entertainment.

Beautiful resort

very enjoyable resort to visit.The food was first rate with a lot of different choices,the people at the resort were very friendly and helpful.We stayed in a suite which was very nice with good maid service and grounds were kept very clean.Overall very nice vacation with lots to do ,would recommend to anyone to go there for a nice vacation at a reasonable price
