Fantastic Resort

Our whole experience from start to finish was superior. We would definitely do it again. The hotel staff were very warm and each and everyone of them always greeted us with a beautiful smile. This has got to be one of our best holidays we ever had.

Beware!

The resort food was terrible, over half of the travel party got sick. Also, the resort allows the locals into use the facility during the day and night. I’ll end this review with a quote from my wife “can we leave I don’t feel safe”... this was at the coffee shop..... Steer clear!

Great Vacation Spot

Enjoyed our stay at Sunscape. Rooms were clean.Service was great.Staff were super friendly.Espically appriciated that no reservations were required at the speciality restaurants. The beach was beautiful--restaurant and bar and bathroom conveniently located for easy access.

Not so Excellente

Resort conveniently located 20 minutes from the airport. Clean, well-kept, over-crowded with inhospitable locals. No shower for two days. No AC for two days. Sporadic power outages. No towel shortage +. Staff very scripted and robotic. Food was fair. Beer was good, cocktails bad. Staff no English. House keeping inconsistent. Pushy vendors at the beach and on resort. Felt like I was trying to be sold something everywhere I went. Loud and rowdy at night. Security non-exsistent. Not a p [... lire plus]lace for relaxation. Party resort for young adults and locals. Overpriced everything in shops on resort (28$ sunscreen) mall was a hidden gem 5 minutes away. Had issues with front desk. Not polite or courteous to guests. Cafe Coco was excellente. Went to Puerto Plata as a couple seeking a relaxing week away from stress, noise , and the hustle bustle of everyday life. And we endured more of all three in one week at Sunscape than we would at home. We are in our late twenties. Open-minded and dont normally complain. Felt the truth needed to be said. Too many good reviews. If it sounds too good, it probably is. Initially had high hopes for this resort, I will not be returning.

Awesome Resort!

We spent a week at Sunscape Puerto Plata. Loved the beautifully maintained grounds, the size of the resort, the staff.... Food was terrific, we tried all the a la cartes...pizza is awesome here, yum. The beach is beautiful, water nice & clear - no rocks and always someone cleaning/raking the beach....great for walking too. Pool great, loved the water temperature. Always a lounger to be found at beach and pool both. Everything was nice & easy, no hassles with anything at all, checking in  [... lire plus]& out, transfers to airport, scheduling excursions....no issues whatsoever. We would (and will!) definitely return to this resort...

Great Resort Sunscape Puerto plata

Room was beautiful, resort clean, pool excellent, beach wonderful, could have more activity at pool during the day. Most of the stuff was at the beach. Had a 3 hr.delay at the airport before leaving hydrolic leak. Good job they found it on the ground!!

Amazing resort with amazing staff.

No complaints at all-rooms we’re nice,lots of hot water. great choice of places to eat with wonderful food.Can’t say enough good things about the staff-always friendly,smiling and accommodating. Very clean resort.

Good Time resort!

Dining was usually a good experience, food was good always, service was really good, staff were very friendly. Our room was dry, clean, and everything worked once we figured out how to turn on the air conditioning and lights. We came during one of the big storms in March but, we were dry as we were on the third floor and our ceiling did not leak, we were fortunate. The staff did an excellent job keeping the place running well and clean. Bathrooms, pools, and various dining areas were always  [... lire plus]tidy. The only complaint we have are the vendors on the beach, we did not enjoy our quiet time constantly being interrupted and continually having to say "no thanks, not interested" every ten or twenty minutes. We spent more time by the pool than on the beach because of this. The hotel also were trying to sell their "Vacation club" membership however, once you st through breakfast or lunch and an hour and a half sales pitch, you at least got a $200 gift certificate at their spa which was not bad.

Great Resort- Sun Club ???

We just returned last week- this is a fantastic resort. Our room was the size of a small condo close to the beach- perfect location. Everything was great- the staff, the food, cleanliness the grounds, the beach and the restaurants. We upgraded to the Sun club and were some what disappointed - not in the amenities but the lack of monitoring on who was using them. This resort does not use bracelets so "in my opinion" anyone could these these facilities and i'm sure it was being abused. Once t [... lire plus]his issue is addressed I would not hesitate to re-book the Sun Club (I am a repeat customer). We have been to Puerto Plata 10 times previous and this resort is our favorite. The hotel staff was quick to address any issues we had- just a great holiday.

Wonderful staff. Great food. Spotless rooms.

This is a beautiful resort with lovely rooms. Great restaurants and a staff that bends over backwards to help. We changed rooms since our first room was very noisy with a disco across the fence. Thumping bass all night. Building 7 is very noisy. Our next room was much more comfortable. There needs to be more umbrellas around the pools. The vendors on the beach are annoying, however, that is not the resorts fault. If I were to visit again I would choose a less busy time. This is a great  [... lire plus]place!

Amazing Staff!!

We have stayed at several resorts in Dominican and I would say Sunscape was one of if not the cleanliest. Staff was constantly cleaning, painting, trimming landscaping, cleaning pools, etc. In addition to the clean state of the facilities, I would say some of the highlights for us were: 1. not having to wear a plastic wristband all week 2. not being limited to number of a la cartes we could attend and not having to reserve 3. compact and orderly layout providing ease of movement 4. staff a [... lire plus]ctually responded to requests for more towels, blankets, etc. - our experience at other resorts would be negative, they rarely appeared. Above all, during our stay my sister-in-law had the misfortune on the last day of breaking her ankle. The medical & hotel staff were wonderful and very caring from tennis court attendant, to doctor, to hotel management, the concierge, the restaurant staff etc. They helped to make a difficult situation more bearable. We truly felt and experienced their concern for her well-being. We would not hesitate to return to Sunscape Resort, we had a most enjoyable vacation.

Great resort

Second time in four months! Smaller resort but lots going on. The Asian restaurant is great!!! All the staff super attentive. I’ll be going back. Juan at the preferred club lounge is super friendly and makes great bloody mary’s.

Awesome week

The beach was beautiful! We played beach volleyball almost everyday with different people on the resort! Lots of food options! Italian restaurant was our fav! If you do an excursion, the 12 waterfalls are absolutely amazing! Staff and drinks great!

Fun Resort

Pros - fun resort, easy to get around, great staff, very nice beach, good selection of food and drinks, nice cafe. Cons - not enough chairs available at pool or beach, a couple people in our group had stomach issues.

Great Vacation

Pros: Food was excellent, we ate at most of the restaurants and found the food to be very good, with a great selection at the buffet. Pool, beach all were wonderful, my wife enjoyed the nightly entertainment. We found the staff to be very friendly. Cons: Bathroom tap leaked, other then that the room was very nice and clean. Needed to purchase the meals in the airplane. Overall was an excellent trip, great hotel at a decent price

Generally good value

Well laid out resort, nice long beach for walking, clean everywhere, friendly staff, the food is ok, not the place for a foodie but the restaurants had a variety, breakfast at Castaways by the beach was always tasty, fresh and fast, lots of action around the big pool and a variety of ages... We had some issues with the time that our flight arrived, we arrived after the Sunclub check in closed at 11 pm, so our priority check in didn't occur and we waited at the end of the non-Sunclub line, by th [... lire plus]e time we got to the check in, our rooms had been given away and we had to move two days later, not cool (we listened while other guests checked in and bragged about being upgraded without charge, upgraded to the rooms we paid for) For the rest of our stay the Sunclub Staff were fantastic to accommodate our upgrade, the Sunclub staff which included Johaira Jaquez and her colleagues made the Sunclub experience worthwhile after being so messed up, the Adult only lounge we enjoyed immensely, a little snack buffet and premium drinks including real Piña Coladas the root of the problem originated with AirTransat changing our flight time more than once from mid morning to late night, not the resort's fault but certainly changed the dynamic of our vacation week Lots of shade on the beach but not enough umbrellas on either the beach or poolside, entertainment was above average and we have visited many all-inclusive in many countries, lots of great features at this resort, coffee shop, ice cream, popcorn, many locations for drinks, snacks, washrooms, wood fired pizza shop was fantastic (calzones) We weren't fans of the Asian restaurant, Italian was the best for us Tamarindo buffet over the pool was convenient and fun, staff great Overall, this resort was good but could be great and probably could gain a star with improvement to cuisine and rooms and more staff Small attention to detail could elevate this resort Proximity to the airport is convenient and the airport itself was very efficient This is a family resort, very good for young children Beach vendors were plentiful which might bother some people but they were not invasive and when you said "no thank you", they were fine Public beaches so they have every right to be there The resort as a whole was good value for the money

Friendly resort

My spouse and I took a trip to this resort on the 19th to the 26th of Jan 2018 with a group of friends. Overall, it was a great place to stay. Clean, and friendly service. I don't really have anything bad to say about the place. Occasionally for showers, the hot water would either take forever or would only get slightly warm. I do recommend if youre a light sleeper to try to get a room not close to the gate as you will hear honks from vehicles throughout the night as well as the guards and gat [... lire plus]e opening and closing frequently. Snack bar open all night was super convenient. The foam party we saw advertised before our commute there, did not take place, however the swim up pool was always a blast! Would i recommend the resort? Absolutely! The nightly shows were enjoyable to watch as well.

Beautiful Resort!

It was my first time, and my husbands 5th time, visiting the DR. This resort was honestly wonderful! Food was good, staff were great, lots to do!! They had dancing performances every night which were awesome! A ton of stuff to do on a beautiful resort!

Great Resort!

-grounds were well kept -food was delicious with a variety to choose from -ate at main buffet every breakfast and dinner... did not try any a la carte restaurants, which do not require reservations (first come, first served) -beach was nice (free paddle boarding, wind surfing, kayaking available) -service was good -rooms could be cleaned a bit more thoroughly

Great time!

Beautiful resort and very clean! Food was great with lots of choices in restaurants! The rooms were updated and great size! All around great choice for all inclusive resorts at great price....will definitely come back!!
