Just love this resort and the people

Just love this resort l have been to Puerto Plata 6 times last year stayed at the Barcelos everytime servfice and staff are amazing,every thing l ever dreamed of.Was very diappointed when l went in Jan l had tstay in another resort,will be staying there again for two weeks in May.

Great Value

Wanted an inexpensive holiday and that what I got. Pool great ,beach cleaned every morning, food tasty. Went to all 5 a la carte restaurants, couple good, others average. People friendly, room ,dated but clean. Would go back again.

So-so in low season

This was our second visit to Barcelo. Staff were accommodating and as friendly as our stay in 2013, however, the resort is in need of an overall sprucing up. We upgrade to the premium (adult only) section which allowed some children for whatever reason, and the poolside service, cleanliness of loungers can be improved upon. This was not an issue in 2013 Low season should not equate to lesser amenities, lesser food choices. The cost of our vacation wasn't less because we traveled in early June. O [... lire plus]ur room was cleaned thoroughly each day. The buffet offered less variety and much repetition however the service at the beach buffet was great and dishes prepared fresh on request. Beach vendors were a major annoyance and interruptive. Overall, it was a pleasant vacation, but we would not recommend low season.

Great vacation!

Great hotel, nice beach, confortable room, good location, friendly service, very large pool (with swim up bar) and animation all day long! Main buffet offert a large sélection of choices and it changes every day

Barcelo Resort

Facilities were really nice, the cafeteria food was pretty horrible but the a la carte restaurants were fantastic. Staff was mostly friendly, felt safe the whole time in the resort. Maids were friendly

Great value for just relaxing

There was no wow factor , but everything , room and the building it was in , food , beer , beach , pool etc etc was pretty good. Housekeeping staff were very good. We recommend somewhere around building 12 if you want some quiet time , and close to the beach but only a minute or two from the pool. Learn the walkways , two minutes anywhere on right walkway. We went beach to eat to pool and so on, ask about free extra cirriculars . Cautions , bring all you need for sunblocks etc., everything is re [... lire plus]ally expensive. , little mall nearby , got scammed , anything off the resort expect to be upset , eg. a free tour is one way , you pay to come back. Also the Al a carte, check for asterics , stars in the menu , lots of paying extra , Mexican and BrazilIan were best by far with no extras. Jm Northern Ontario Canada

Just okay

The rooms were okay, the first night we found a huge cockroach on the bathroom floor but never seen anything after that. The maid service was awesome Julie really took care of us.. The grounds were nice BUT they really do cater to the locals. I don't mind being around locals but they were extremely loud and rude. The buffet was just okay, you could find something to eat but again they really cater to the locals even with the food. The pools were nice but not much shaded areas if you want out of  [... lire plus]the sun. The beach was beautiful even though we didn't spend a lot of time there as it was way too windy for our liking. I guess to sum it up, we got what we expected for what we paid.

Barcelo Puerto Plata

I have stayed at this resort twice before so I knew what to expect. Not a lot of frills but the pools were nice and the food was good. The rooms need to be updated and as well it would be nice to see the hotel put in an ATM. Staff in the resort were friendly.

Another wonderfull vacation March 6-27-2015

This was our fifth visit to the Barcelo and we love it. The people and staff are so nice and will go out of their way to help you. Sometimes when requesting help the language is a bit of a problem but that makes it interesting. You're never quite sure what you will get and it is quite funny at times. We used Club Premium this year and really love the amenities you receive there, especially getting the eggs cooked just the way you like them in the morning. The food at the buffet is good and if  [... lire plus]you can't find something to eat that you like you're not trying. The only thing wrong with the buffet food is that it is not hot but his is typical in the Caribbean I think. The fresh fruit and juices are to die for I went into pineapple withdrawal when we came home. We love the Sea food, Italian and most of all the Japanese restaurants. The pizza is good but more suited to the young crowd. We did not care for the Brazilian but, a lot of people did it is your individual taste but not ours. I have read a lot of negative remarks about this hotel and I can't believe them. Lots of people that we talked to believe that it could possibly be by other hotels posting them. We talked to some people from Nova Scotia who hadn't been back for five years because of these postings. They couldn't believe it they felt that the Barcelo had improved and got better over the years. If you are looking for glitz and glamor in the rooms it's not here. If you want a room with a comfortable bed, a clean washroom, a beautiful beach and wonderful staff then this is the place for you. The gardens are beautiful and maintained by the hard working staff at the Barcelo who spend all day raking and cleaning. They are to be commended for their hard work. Too many of us forget about all the work that is required to keep the gardens looking so nice. After the morning cleaning of the beach a large patch of sea weeds and small twigs washed into the beach; there must have been a storm at sea. The Barcelo crew came down and cleaned it up and I will tell you that the other hotels didn't do that, thank you Barcello ground keepers. We did notice and thank you for your hard work. I have only one more thing to say thank you Barcelo for our wounderful vacations with you and we will see you again in 2016

Great Week at Barcelo, DR

We had a great time, food was good, pool area was great, beach was good I didn't go in, not as nice as Punta Cana but I'm a pool person. We paid under thousand each so I can't complain. Don't listen to negative reviews, nothing is perfect.

Great time at Barcelo!

Wonderful resort! Very clean and well taken care of resort. The pool and beach areas were very nice. Excellent food with a large variety of dishes. We cant wait to return!!. We did upgrade slightly to the premium and the room was spectacular with two huge rooms and two balconies!

Amazing Resort

My husband and my third trip to the Barcelo Resort Puerto Plata. We love the people, entertainment, food, the well kept grounds and beautiful beach. Every visit has provided a new experience and unforgettable memories.

Good resort

Very nice beach, very good food, interesting and funny shows every night. A lot activities around swimming pool for adults and kids. Only one complain: rooms need to be up to date (closet very small ). Very nice resort overall.

Good time!

Very clean & well maintained resort. Food was good all though not kept hot enough in the buffet. We stayed in Club Premium section which was awesome! Would return for another holiday next year. Great staff!

Staff Friendly Resort with good food!

Nice Resort, very nice people, rooms were clean & comfortable. Beach was breezy & the sea was a little cool for my liking. I'm a beach girl & this trip will not have me visiting DR North Coast again in mid-March. Nightly entertainment could be improved, and the activity staff during the day didn't get you motivated to do to much, they preferred to mingle with the same guests for the 7 days I was there. Mostly couples & groups, not many singles. Overall good for R&R.

Wonderful resort

I went to the Barcelo Puerto Plata from the 6th of march to the 13th. I found this resort to be a great value for the money I paid. I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. I liked that it was compact and easy to find my way around. The buffet always had enough variety, lets just say i didnt lose any weight . The other dining choices were average, but fine. The beach was lovely minus the venders overall it was a great value for the money, rooms dated but clean. Id go back again,if the  [... lire plus]price was right. Made new friends and great memories,thats a great vacation had by all.

Beautiful Resort! Friendly Staff! Loved it!!

This resort was divine. I would definitely go to this resort again. The grounds were beautiful and everyone was so friendly. The beach was beautiful, although the vendors on the beach tried to sell you things constantly, it was as easy as saying no thank you. The food was so delicious.

Average

Please note - I take an all inclusive trip with the girls once a year and have visited ten all inclusive resorts in various areas of the Carribean. The Barcelo is showing its age. Rooms are roomy but damp and old. The restaurants are okay. Same old food being recycled at the buffet. The buffet has limited fruits and the selection gets tiresome. The beach is nice. Plenty of chairs and great for walking. The vendors are always around but you get used to it. I am not a very picky person. I look for [... lire plus] a good beach, clean rooms and good food. I would not go back to the Barcelo. There are much nicer/better resorts along this strip. We had the misfortune to be at the resort where the S trip kids-(March break -17-18 yr olds - aprox 200 teens) were this year. Wow. Loud,obnoxious and drunk. Everything smelled like vomit after the first day. The next time I book an all inclusive the first question will be if the resort is part of the S trip booking.

Great vacation

The hotel was nice, it was clean, not fancy rooms, but you are only in your room to sleep. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The nightly entertainment was good they get you involved in the dancing.

Great resort!

The hotel was very nice, clean and the people that worked here are amazing! The a la carte restaurants were fantastic!! We ate at them all, and enjoyed every meal. The room was spacious, and the cleaning staff did an excellent job. We would love to go back again!!! We even had friends staying locally come to spend the evening with us.
